Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Sanibel Historical Museum & Village

January 9, 2015 by RebeccaLook

Sanibel, FLA (Dec 15, 2014) – The Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on December 10th to officially welcome the new Visitors Center at the Sanibel Historical Museum & Village.

The new Visitors Center is located in a brand new exhibit, Shore Haven, a 1924 two-story Sears kit home, which was moved from its original location on Bird Lane to the Sanibel Historical Museum & Village in 2012. It has taken two years to restore and renovate the home at a significant cost which was supported by Museum members and friends. Shore Haven will act as the new entrance point for visitors and will also feature special exhibits and educational programs throughout the year.

“We are delighted to be a part of this memorable occasion “said Ric Base, President of the Chamber. “Sanibel is a treasure trove of historic buildings that are not only beautifully preserved, but are also in daily use so that all can share the experience of Sanibel past”. The President of the Historical Museum and Village, Dorothy Donaldson, added “Shore Haven joins an illustrious group of structures that includes the old Bailey General Store and the School House, still vividly remembered by many residents. We are very fortunate to be able to enjoy their gracious presence in these modern, fast-moving times when all too often the contribution made by our generations past is forgotten by the present”.

The Sanibel Historical Museum & Village is located at 950 Dunlop Road, Sanibel, FL 33957 and is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. For more information please call 239-472-4648 or visit them at www.sanibelmuseum.org.
